About the Item

This dining table presents a strong yet balanced presence, defined by its architectural structure and rich surface articulation. The rectangular top rests on two sculptural supports composed of curved vertical elements joined by a horizontal stretcher, creating a stable and visually grounded base. The overall composition is symmetrical and measured, with a clear emphasis on solidity tempered by refined proportions. A defining feature of the design is the carved apron running along the perimeter of the top, articulated with a repeating geometric relief. This carefully executed motif introduces depth and rhythm, lending the piece a pronounced decorative identity while remaining fully integrated into its structural logic. The top itself is deliberately restrained, allowing the sculpted band to function as the primary ornamental element. The legs terminate in stepped feet, subtly recalling classical references interpreted through a modern, mid-century lens. Executed in oak, the table displays a warm, nuanced tone with a visible grain that enhances both the carved details and the curved structural elements. The contrast between smooth planes and sculpted surfaces highlights the quality of the workmanship and reflects the high standards of Italian cabinetmaking of the period, where craftsmanship and decorative refinement were closely aligned. Produced by an Italian manufacturer in the 1940s, the table is conceived in the style of Paolo Buffa. The design aligns with the language associated with Buffa’s work, particularly in its synthesis of classical inspiration, geometric ornamentation, and modern clarity. It exemplifies a period in which Italian furniture sought to reconcile tradition and modernity through elegant yet substantial forms. The table is in very good condition and has been professionally restored and refinished by our internal atelier following a conservation-led approach. The oak structure is sound and stable, the carved apron retains its sharpness and depth, and the renewed finish enhances the natural warmth of the wood while respecting its original character. Minor traces of wear consistent with age and use remain visible and should be considered normal, contributing to the authenticity and integrity of the piece.
