Round Elm Dining Table in the Spirit of Pierre Chapo, France, Contemporary
Structure reduced to pure geometry — a quiet homage to Chapo’s architectural craft.
This round elm dining table takes its cues from Pierre Chapo’s celebrated work, where solid wood, joinery and proportion do all the talking. The top is a thick, gently chamfered disc, composed of radiating elm boards that draw the eye to the centre and showcase the wood’s warm, luminous grain. A subtle faceting at the perimeter gives the edge a soft, crafted profile rather than a strict circle, adding depth without adornment.
Beneath, the base becomes a small piece of timber architecture: four splayed, triangular legs converge into a central hub, braced by a low stretcher. The intersecting planes read almost like a folded wooden sculpture, recalling Chapo’s obsession with structural clarity and the expressive potential of joinery. From every angle, the legs form new compositions of line and shadow, giving the table a dynamic presence despite its compact footprint.
Executed in solid elm, the piece embraces the material’s natural figure and subtle colour variations.
