About the Item

This extraordinary sculptural table, made in Italy by Poggioli in the 1970s, represents one of the boldest expressions of Italian postmodern decorative design. The piece stands out for its complex and dynamic architectural base, constructed as a three-dimensional interweaving of geometric volumes in maple, maple burl, and polished brass. The surfaces, masterfully lacquered and polished to a mirror finish, create a play of warm and deep reflections that enhance the plastic perception of the whole. The composition, perfectly balanced between structure and sculpture, recalls the constructivist language and the formal experimentation of the most visionary Italian furniture of the 1970s, in an ideal dialogue with the works of Carlo Bugatti, Willy Rizzo, and Luciano Frigerio, while maintaining a completely autonomous personality. The golden “Poggioli” signature applied on the base certifies the authenticity of a piece destined for major Italian and international design collectors, often erroneously attributed to other authors. The smoked, darkened glass top, of significant thickness, rests on the structure in perfect balance, emphasizing the sculptural strength of the base and its geometry in tension. Every detail, from the contrast of materials to the rhythm of the lines, is conceived to build a powerful and sophisticated stage presence, where Italian craftsmanship dialogues with the formal freedom of contemporary art. This table, due to its construction quality, rarity, and signature, is to be considered a true functional artwork, emblematic of the most experimental and fascinating season of Italian design. In excellent condition, with minimal signs of age consistent with its history, it retains all its original finishes and the coeval glass top.
