About the Item

Exceedingly Rare Italian Renaissance Revival figural walnut dining table, circa 1850-1870s. The table can be used in its smaller rounded form at 59" or extended up to 125" with three leaves for formal dining use. Extension mechanism extends much further, and additional leaves and center support could be added for a larger space. The table showcases an acanthus carved edge over a hand carved low relief apron with scrolling foliate, grotesque northwind faces flanked by cherubs, scalloping and acanthus relief. The table is supported by four robust fully carved Atlas Figures with crossed arms over leafy scrolled lower body leading to large claw feet. Includes three leaves for extension. The table retains the original buzzer button that would have been used by the head of the house to signal to the butlers for service. This one of a kind piece will make the perfect statement for any grand dining room or great room. Also available for purchase is an accompanying set of 18 chairs that work very well with the table. Both were used in paramount studios films productions. A photograph of the chairs is shown in the last picture. The table can currently support 10 chairs. Added leaves would allow for up to 16 chairs. The table and chairs were used in 1988 in Crocodile Dundee II, and later sold by Paramount studios. It can be seen in the mob boss's house, where the kidnapped woman, Linda Kozlowski was sitting. Italian Renaissance Revival style, also known as "Neo-Renaissance" was popular during the last quarter of the 19th century. The style is inspired by early 16th-century Italian Renaissance architecture, especially from palazzos in cities like Rome, Venice, and Florence. The North Wind Face is a design that became popular in England in the 18th and 19th century as whimsical furniture began to sweep through towns as it made its way across the Atlantic. The North Wind face is said to be seen whispering from the back of chairs as it blows wooden tendrils of wind from its mouth. Dimensions: 125" x 59" x 32"h, leaves 22" each, 59" round top, figural legs adding 5" depth.
