About the Item
Fine Regency Mahogany Extending Dining Table, Circa 1820
A superb early 19th-century Regency period mahogany pull-out extending dining table of unusually fine quality and beautifully balanced proportions. Crafted from well-figured, dense solid mahogany, the oblong top has rounded corners, a crisp moulded edge, and excellent colour and patination. The table extends on robust telescopic bearer stretchers and retains its original leaf, allowing it to function either as a compact four-seater or a generous six-seater — an ideal solution for both everyday use and smaller dining spaces.
The leaves are secured with Cope
Collinson stamped brass fork clips — premium fittings of the period and a strong indicator of the table’s superior quality. One original stamped clip survives, with three precisely made reproductions created to match it. The table stands on finely turned legs of elegant Regency form, each retaining its original brass cup castors. The overall construction, timber selection, and detailing clearly place this among the better-quality examples of its type.
As an early pull-out design, the table requires two people to extend, predating the later Victorian wind-out mechanism.

Dimensions (approximate):
Height: 75 cm (28 3/4in)
Length (extended): 164 cm (64 1/2in)
Length (closed, without leaf): 101.5 cm (40 in)
Width: 134.5 cm (53 in)
Additional leaf: 61 cm (24 in)
Condition:
In very good condition throughout, structurally sound and sturdy with no loose joints. Entirely original apart from the three faithfully reproduced brass clips made to match the surviving stamped Cope
Collinson example. The surface retains a lovely, settled patina and original polish, showing only minor marks and blemishes consistent with age and use. Sensitively cleaned and waxed in our workshop, with minimal restoration undertaken solely to preserve authenticity.
Now beautifully presented and ready for use.
As with all antique furniture, minor signs of age and use are to be expected and contribute to the character of the piece.
