About the Item

An exceptional and highly refined extendable dining table by Vladimir Kagan, featuring a spectacularly figured rosewood top, leather-wrapped architectural base with chrome banding, and two original extension leaves. The table itself is signed with two Vladimir Kagan labels, reading Hand Made in the Workshops of Vladimir Kagan Designs, New York. Each of the two leaves also retains a Vladimir Kagan label for a total of four original labels across the set, a detail that will be particularly appreciated by collectors. The tabletop is executed in richly grained rosewood with dramatic, exotic figuring and a deep, high-polish finish that beautifully showcases the natural movement of the wood. The surface reads as both luxurious and architectural, balancing warmth with Kagan’s unmistakable modern sensibility. The sculptural pedestal base is wrapped in leather, complemented by chrome trim and accents, creating a sophisticated interplay of materials, organic wood, supple leather, and cool metal. This combination is emblematic of Kagan’s later dining and conference table designs, where elegance and engineering converge. The table extends smoothly at each end to accommodate the two original leaves, which are supported by integrated aluminum extension rails beneath the top, ensuring stability and proper alignment when fully expanded. Both leaves are labeled, as is the main table, underscoring authenticity and completeness, an increasingly rare attribute for Kagan dining tables of this scale. Vladimir Kagan dining tables are far less common than his seating designs and are increasingly sought after for their sculptural presence, superior craftsmanship, and versatility. This example stands out for its material richness, architectural proportions, and unusually well-preserved labeling, making it a strong candidate for collectors, designers, and high-end residential or commercial interiors. Ideal for Mid-Century Modern, Postmodern, Contemporary, or Architectural interiors, as well as executive dining rooms, penthouse residences, design studios, or high-end conference environments. With the leaves installed, the table comfortably accommodates larger gatherings while maintaining visual balance and refinement. MEASUREMENTS: H 29.5" x W 80" x D 48" (with no leaves) H 29.5" x W 101" x D 48" (with 1 leaf) H 29.5" x W 122" x D 48" (with 2 leaves) * Leaves are 21" wide (each) * Wood top (not counting leather band) is 77" x 45" and is .75" thick Knee Height is approximately 26" * Has adjustable feet that can raise the height by 1/2 inch CONDITION: Very good condition overall. Leather is in very good condition with light wear. Rosewood top is in very good condition with light age and wear including light scratching. The finish has one larger scratch located near the center of the top. One leaf has a small chip to the corner. Chrome banding is in very good condition. Overall the table is very presentable and attractive with a very nice deep finish which accentuates the vivid Rosewood grain. The table can absolutely be used immediately, or the top can be refinished to correct the two blemishes and other light wear if desired.

VK201 Rosewood Dining Table by Vladimir Kagan for Kagan-Dreyfuss, 1958, Signed
By Kagan-Dreyfuss, Inc., Vladimir Kagan
Located in Los Angeles, CA
This rare and important model #VK-201 sculptured Rosewood and Walnut 'Round Extension Dining Table' by Vladimir Kagan for Kagan-Dreyfuss was designed in 1958, this example produced between 1958 and 1960, during Kagan's partnership with Hugo Dreyfuss which ended in 1960. This rare example is stamped with the Kagan-Dreyfuss branded marks on the underside of the table and under one of the two leaves, and serves as an important early example of this sought-after design, perfect for collectors, art and design investors, and interior designers working on high profile projects. This Model VK-201, described in Kagan's early catalogues as a 'Round Extension Dining Table in walnut with rosewood top' has Kagan's signature gorgeous sculpted legs in solid walnut along with a magnificent vivid-grained Rosewood top. Just look at the closeup photos of the sculpted edges and tailored legs... this table looks more like a sculpture than merely just furniture. Quality of materials and craftsmanship you don't find in todays products - this table is the epitome of the saying 'they don't make them like they used to'. Ultra refinement in this gorgeous collectors piece which extends from a dining or card / game / cafe table seating for four, to a larger dining or meeting table suitable for eight. With no leaves - the table is 48" round and with both leaves extends to 96" while retaining a very nice 48" width. Vladimir Kagan's works have been highly valued by collectors and art / design investors, and his earlier works in the 1950s partnership with Hugo Dreyfuss (Kagan-Dreyfuss from 1950 to 1960) are among the most sought after by 'purist collectors' like myself. Why do I prize his 1950s works above all else? I can write a short book on this, but one easy to explain reason is that this was a period unlike the rest of his career, where items produced in this time are hallmarked within that period - a distinction that his later works lacked. Essentially, everything post the early 60s blended together with the decades thereafter. A novice Kagan collector is content with anything by Kagan, even items produced by Directional and American Leather Company...
