About the Item

This square table by Warren McArthur, circa 1938, embodies the refined industrial elegance that defines the designer’s work. With its compact yet generous 42 x 42 inch footprint, it functions beautifully as a dining table, card table, or adaptable work surface. The top is clad in original black Formica or Cafolite, materials McArthur used for their durability and modernity, and the table comes with a custom 60 year old protective glass topper, preserving the surface while enhancing its reflective depth. The frame showcases McArthur’s signature aircraft-inspired aluminum tubing, here expressed with graceful curved corner supports and the characteristic horizontal double-tube braces, both decorative and structural. The brushed aluminum legs terminate in the desirable black rubber “donut” feet, an iconic detail found on his 1930s production and prized by collectors for both authenticity and sculptural presence. The last image is of a different large Warren McArthur dining table with a custom ordered black formica top with a glass cover 48 x 96 x 30" McArthur’s work is celebrated for its combination of lightness, strength, and a distinctly American interpretation of modernism. This example is especially striking for its square profile and for its dramatically reflective black surface, which plays beautifully with natural and ambient light. the top has some minor age related condition issues. A versatile and sculptural piece suitable for interiors ranging from Art Deco to contemporary minimalism, this table stands as an excellent representation of McArthur’s contribution to early modern industrial design. Fully stable, original, and ready for use.
