About the Item

An exceptional and highly collectible Scandinavian modern ensemble designed by Arne Jacobsen, consisting of an original Ant chair and its matching drop-leaf table, both executed in richly figured rosewood veneer. This is not a re-edition, but an authentic period set produced by Fritz Hansen, Denmark, bearing original manufacturer markings (“FH Danmark”), confirming its provenance and originality. The Ant chair, one of Jacobsen’s most iconic designs, is celebrated for its sculptural, organic silhouette and refined ergonomic balance. The deep, expressive rosewood grain enhances the fluidity of the form, lending the chair a warmth and visual depth rarely found in later productions. The accompanying drop-leaf table features a refined architectural structure with slender steel legs and elegant cross-bracing, paired with a rosewood top and folding side leaves. Compact when closed and generous when fully opened, it reflects Jacobsen’s mastery of functional modernism, where intelligent construction meets understated elegance. Rosewood, now strictly regulated and no longer used in contemporary European production, adds to the rarity and desirability of this ensemble. Together, the table and chair form a cohesive and visually striking set, emblematic of Danish design at its most accomplished. The set remains in good vintage condition, showing light signs of age and use consistent with its period, with a well-preserved surface and no structural damage, losses, or deep scratches. A museum-worthy ensemble and a true collector’s piece, ideal for discerning design connoisseurs seeking an authentic example of mid-20th-century Scandinavian modernism. Please note: rosewood may be subject to international export regulations depending on the destination country. Buyers are responsible for any applicable import requirements or restrictions.
