About the Item

This classic Empire table is made of walnut with a dark grey marble top. The French antique piece dates back to the 19th century and sports cylindrical column legs with bronze feet at the bottom and bronze capitals at its top. Three drawers rest below the marble, each adorned with a bronze pull on. Two square legs stand at back, resting on the bottom shelf. The column design is classic to the Empire style, as are the bronze features. Two elements which combine to create an unpretentiously beautiful table. The piece is part of the collection from The French Antique Shop, a fourth generation antique store in the heart of the French Quarter of New Orleans. A space that was created and curated at first by Marie and Marcelle and Granet. Their first shop was located in the heart of Paris, and opened in 1919 after they migrated to Paris from Romania post World War I. Shortly after establishing themselves in Paris, as a Jewish family they were forced to flee in the late 1930s before World War II. Marie and Marcel opened up their shop in New Orleans in 1939, the city in which this antique collection has grown and continues to flourish. The store is now run by the third and fourth generation, Marc, Michael, and Brian Friedlander, and is a highly curated space filled with rare antiquities, fine antique lighting, eclectic fixtures, and everything in between. We have imported all the antique items in our collection directly from France.
