About the Item

This fine French Louis XV chiffonière table dates to the late 18th century and is beautifully constructed in kingwood with parquetry veneers arranged in a lively geometric pattern across the top and drawer fronts. The table stands on elegant cabriole legs capped in gilt bronze sabots and is fitted with a pierced brass gallery surrounding the shaped top, a feature both decorative and practical. The three bow-front drawers are framed by banded veneers and retain their original escutcheons, contributing to the overall refinement and symmetry of the design. The underside bears the stamp F.A. Mondon, attributed to François-Antoine Mondon (maître ébéniste 1754), a noted Parisian cabinetmaker whose workshop produced sophisticated case furniture during the reign of Louis XV and into the transitional period. Mondon’s work is distinguished by balanced proportions, quality veneering, and tasteful use of gilt bronze mounts—all characteristics present in this example. Pieces of this caliber reflect the high level of Parisian craftsmanship in the decades leading into the Neoclassical taste and remain highly desirable for collectors and decorators alike. The table is in nice antique condition with wear consistent with age and normal use. There are expected small veneer losses, scratches, and age shrinkage lines, as well as surface wear to the gilt bronze mounts and brass gallery, all of which present honestly and do not detract from its appeal. A scarce opportunity to acquire a stamped Louis XV work table with strong decorative presence, elegant scale, and important attribution. 29h x 16w x 16d
