When the Art Deco movement reached major Chinese cities like Tianjin and Shanghai, the design aesthetic that emerged was the perfect intersection of European modernism and Ming-dynasty refinement. This Deco side table is a product of the era, crafted in 1930s Shanghai with fine materials and supple, flowing lines.
The elegant table has a round top of black-and-white marble, selected for its swirling patterning reminiscent of misty clouds or crashing waves. The wooden frame is crafted of a beautiful, dense hardwod, devoid of decoration and perfectly seamed with mortise-and-tenon joinery. The straight legs bend into gracefully curved lines, flowing from apron to leg and up again to form a round lower shelf.
