About the Item

Bout de canapé composé d'un vide poche en céramique blanche et petit plateau en bois. Design de Robin Day pour Habitat. En superbe état . Robin DAY Son épouse Lucienne et lui ont conçu de nombreux meubles particulièrement brillants par leur dimension novatrice. Au cours des années 50, ils ont bouleversé la vision traditionnelle et bourgeoise du mobilier en privilégiant la fonctionnalité. De cette approche nouvelle sont nées des pièces légendaires comme la chaise Polyprop (1962-1963) et la chaise empilable Hillestack (1950). Biographie Robin Day est né en 1915 en Angleterre. Il est diplômé du Royal College of Art de Londres. En 1948, il fonde avec sa femme leur propre bureau de design. En 1949, il participe au concours Low-Cost Furniture organisé par le MoMa de New-York et remporte la première place. En 1950, il est nommé directeur du design de Hille international. Son travail s’inscrit dans un contexte d’après-guerre. De ce fait, Day avait à cœur de dessiner des meubles économiques et pratiques, pouvant donc s’intégrer dans de petites surfaces. La recherche technique était au cœur de ses préoccupations comme le montre la chaise Polyprop conçue en moulage par injection. Robin Day est l’une des grandes figures du design tant il a su en bouleverser les codes.
