About the Item
Kitchen table hand-made in Italy in the mid 1800s using walnut and pegged construction. This is a fantastic kitchen work table that was made to be used and abused. The top is made of three boards (two large matching boards and a thinner connector in between) pegged to the apron. As it can be seen in the pictures this table has a lot of character, which we have specifically decided not to restore or hide because it is beautifully telling the history of the piece. This table was used to prep means, one can see knife cuts, chips and ware that can only be created over many years of continuous use. under the top we find a flat apron with two overlay drawers on the front. The knobs on the drawers seem to be still the original ones. The drawers show beautiful hand-made dovetail joints. The large turned legs are connected to the apron and the stretcher with square blocks, and rest on tapered turned feet. To connect all four legs we find an I-stretcher decorated by a simple linear hand-carved groove.
This is an absolutely stunning and practical piece that can, and asks to be used on a daily basis. It's light color makes it look less imposing, despite its rather large size and also helps it blend in with country style furniture as well as more modern design kitchens. This is a table where your kids can do homework while you prep meals, or help you make those yummy cookies that your grandma used to make and for which the recipe is only shared among family members. This is a table to make memories and live life.
