About the Item

A Very Attractive Mid 19th Century French Chestnut Wood Farmhouse Kitchen Dining Table, To Seat 8, Of Good Functional Porportions, Retaining Excpetionally Rich Colour And Surface To Well Figured Plank Top, Over One End Drawer To Frieze, Raised On Elegant Square Tapered Legs.  This is a great example of its type and slightly wider than many which makes it very functional indeed, resulting in it being pretty much the perfect size and shape for just about any kitchen or dining room. It retains a quite exceptional colour and surface to the top, which is also extremely well figured and boasts incredible character, as can be seen by the extensive images. The end drawer is also a useful little addition and overall its just a lovely table. The base is attractive, with no structural defects to speak of and this results in the table being particularly robust and solid. It is also very much worth noting that with no stretchers low down between the legs there is never an issue in terms of a persons legs when trying to sit at the table, or indeed when trying to tuck chairs under it. There is the usual old marks, scuffs, scrapes, dents and repairs which one would expect on a functional item of furniture this old, but these are all historic and of course add greatly to the overall character. There are many farmhouse dining type tables on the market for sale, but few will measure up to this one in terms of its combination of function, elegance and condition. As with all items which we offer for sale it has been naturally wax polished, in the traditional manner, by our specialist antique furniture restorers before being offered for sale, ensuring it is ready to be placed straight into the home. An Extremely Good Quality, Mid-18th Century, George II Period Solid Mahogany Oval Drop Leaf Dining Table, To Seat 8 People, Having Extremely Well Figured Two Flap Top Retaining Exceptional, Rich, Untouched Colour And Patina, Raised On Four Elegant Turned Legs Terminating With Original Pad Feet. Georgian drop leaf dining tables of this design are relatively common to find, however it is rare to find one of this size and in this condition, which retains such a fabulous colour and patina. It is also quite nice to find an oval one, which is not far off being circular when extended. This is a superb example of its type, constructed from what would have been the absolute best solid mahogany available in the mid 18th century and because of that the table is still as fit for purpose as the day it was made. It is particularly solid even with the moving legs fully extended and this allows for great functionality. Of course another tick on the desirability scale for this table is that it can be easily folded down and even pushed against a wall, or into a corner when not in full use, meaning one does not require such a large dining room as may otherwise have been required. The table also retains a fabulous untouched colour and patina and has very clearly not ever been stripped and repolished or anything like that. Seating 8, this table is one of one of the most desirable antique dining table forms available and would work with a whole variety of different dining chairs...
