About the Item

Presenting a magnificent signed Paul Sormani marquetry inlaid, bronze-mounted, doré ormolu napkin/card table, an exquisite example of 19th-century French craftsmanship at its finest. This elegant Louis XVI–style table features an extraordinary geometric marquetry top framed by a brass border, opening to reveal its original green felt gaming surface—perfect for cards, napkin folding games, or intimate parlor entertainment. The apron showcases a stunning array of cube-pattern veneer work, centered with a gilt bronze laurel wreath motif symbolizing victory and refinement. The table is supported by slender, fluted tapering legs capped with doré ormolu mounts and brass sabots, highlighting the neoclassical sophistication synonymous with the Sormani workshop. Paul Sormani (1817–1877), born in Venice and later establishing his renowned Parisian atelier, was one of the most distinguished ébénistes of the 19th century. Celebrated for producing luxurious furniture “in the style of the ancien régime,” Sormani earned numerous medals at international expositions and became a favorite of European aristocracy, including Empress Eugénie. After his passing, the firm continued under the direction of his widow and son, maintaining the same level of excellence and artistic precision. Measures 23.75 x 23.75 x 29.5 tall This signed Sormani table is an exceptional investment-grade piece—ideal for collectors of fine French antiques, luxury interiors, or anyone seeking a rare and historically significant decorative treasure.
