About the Item

"Ping I" is a polished aluminum holder or catchall, designed by Giuseppe Chigiotti and manufactured by Driade. Available in quick ship. Indoor use only. DIMENSIONS: Ø 8.8", H. 19.6" In the past houses used to be full of many helpful and small objects, for putting ashes rather than for sewing, for serving purposes rather than for display: they punctuated dwelling places. Giuseppe Chigiotti, by designing “Ping”, thinks back to those times now passed and creates a small serving furniture item, designed in two versions: "Ping I", featuring the function of generic holder or catchall, and "Ping II", a discrete supporting surface for a glass or a book. GIUSEPPE CHIGIOTTI (born in Grosseto in 1946) graduated from the University of Florence with a degree in architecture and is an associate professor at the Milan Polytechnic, where he teaches Theory and History of Industrial Design at the Department of Design. After doing researches about history of architecture, he devoted his efforts focusing on the historical roots of design, with a particular interest in the design of furniture and objects for domestic spaces. In particular, he investigated American-Italian events, especially the interplay between production and design. At the same time he also works as a designer. He wrote books and papers about the theory and history of design and architecture. He contributed to the creation of the collection of the Museo dell’Arredo Contemporaneo (Museum of Contemporary Furniture). For Driade he also wrote essays for “Manuals of Furnishing” book and edited two books: “A journey through Driade living” and “Driadekosmo: the world of objects”. He has always combined his university teaching and research activity with architectural and design practice outside the academic world. His pieces of design have been published in many books and design magazines (Abitare, Casa Vogue, Domus, Ottagono).
