About the Item

An Exceptional example of the Iconic Lighted Reading Table by Pierre Jeanneret for The Chandigarh Project ca. 1964. This example in original but sympathetically restored condition. Glass divider will be included upon purchase (not pictured but see additional image to see what that will look like) This example is the short version. Removable tabletop in solid plank teak mounted on two angles "v" shaped legs. A painted metal shade surrounds a light source which illuminates the table top. From the Punjab University Library. Pierre Jeanneret played a quiet but crucial role in shaping modern Chandigarh. Working alongside Le Corbusier, he focused on the city’s human scale—designing furniture, public buildings, and housing that balanced simplicity with everyday functionality. His teak-and-cane chairs, now icons of mid-century design, were originally just thoughtful solutions for new civic offices. Jeanneret stayed in Chandigarh for over a decade, leaving behind a body of work that still defines the city’s character.
