About the Item
Most likely hailing from France during the Belle Époque, this endearing pedestal table with a charming hand painted table top, truly is a joy to look at!
Made after the Exposition Universelle of 1867, when all things Asian were à la mode, the tabletop is decorated with a swallow, blossoms and twigs, imitating the bird-and-flower motifs often depicted in Japanese and Chinese art.
The square table is set on a bamboo frame and supported by cross bars for structural stability. The blackened bentwood braces with protruding dowls on the lower end of the pedestal are a delightful detail.
This selette table is in good and stable condition with some signs of its age and use - most notably one of the legs has a slight split (please refer to photos). The table top while still very attractive does show some wear - most likely hailing from its use as a plant stand at one stage.
Thanks to its natural elegance this Bamboo selette will be equally at home in a casual setting or in a sophisticated environment - be it as a stylish standalone piece or showcasing a statement lamp, prized vase or flower arrangement.
