Carved Marble Sundial Pedestal

About the Item
This gorgeous pedestal lost its sundial long ago. It can easily be used as a base for a sculpture or an urn. The opening for the sundial is 12¼", with a ¾" reveal.
James Gibbs (1682-1754) was one of Britan's most influencial architects, having designed St. Martin's-in-the-Fields in London and Radcliffe Camera at Oxford University. He published his important A Book of Architecture in 1728 which contained 380 architectural designs, including 18 designs for sundial pedestals. This pedestal is closely based on a design in Plate 148.
