About the Item
A rare and large antique majolica floor standing pedestal by renowned and sought after maker George Jones and dating from around 1865. The pedestal is formed as three curved branches tied and joined in the middle extending from a solid and flat sided tricorn base and supporting a wide round flat top. The branch stems are naturalistically formed with cut off branch elements and natural wooden characteristics and each with twisted leafy grape vines growing around the branches with hanging fruit at the top of each branch. The stand is hand decorated in typical George Jones style in tones of brown, yellow, green and purple and with the signature mottle glazed base to both the underside of the top and base itself. The stand has a painted black number 1450 to the lower edge. A stunning and rare example.
