A striking handcrafted Modernist iron pedestal featuring a refined architectural silhouette and subtly decorative forged detailing. The rectilinear frame is composed of squared tubular supports joined in clean geometric alignment, producing a structure of restrained industrial elegance.
The top surface is a solid forged iron slab bordered by a continuous hand-hammered edge in a repeating ovoid and scalloped pattern, each impression individually tooled to catch light across the burnished patina. Beneath this perimeter runs a secondary engraved wave border, lending rhythmic refinement reminiscent of French Art Deco metalwork or the textured precision of Diego Giacometti’s and Gilbert Poillerat’s forged iron furniture.
The patina exhibits rich tonal variations—from graphite gray to deep umber—with traces of warm gilt at the edges, emphasizing its artisan-made character. The vertical supports are left slightly raw, showing the natural striations of the forging process, balancing precision with honesty of material.
At once sculptural and minimal, the pedestal bridges Modernist and Neo-Craft traditions: its proportions suit use as a plant or sculpture stand, console base, or architectural accent in both residential and gallery settings. The piece’s understated form and hand-finished detailing demonstrate a mastery of proportion and metallurgy rarely found in contemporary work.
