Pair of antique French giltwood torchère stands
French, late 19th century
Measures: Height 90cm, diameter 38cm
This fine pair of torchère stands is a superb example of the Rococo style. Each stand features a tripod base with three scrolled feet. The central baluster column of each is intricately carved with foliate detailing, including grasping acanthus leaves and rosettes. Each stand culminates in a wide circular plateau carved with further foliate designs. The stands are warmly gilt.

Made to complement and display luxury items such as Sevres style porcelain vases, these fine stands are French-made, and date from the early 20th century. They are decorated with rich and pleasing giltwood carving in floral motifs, interlaced with songbirds around the four areas that lie just below the upper surface, which is inset with a small marble disc.
