This exceptional and beautifully scaled pair of Art Deco pedestals showcases the bold and streamlined design principles of the 1930s. Crafted in fluted walnut, these pieces are a masterful blend of natural texture, luxurious finishes, and geometric precision. Used during the period in a Chicago Art Deco Movie Theater, these pedestals feature fluted walnut columns, which are meticulously crafted to create a rhythmic verticality that draws the eye upward. The walnut's rich tone and natural grain pattern evoke warmth and timeless elegance, while the fluted design nods to the traditional architectural motifs that inspired many Art Deco pieces.
The top and base are finished in rectilinear black lacquer, whose glossy surface adds a refined, modern contrast to the organic quality of the walnut. Atop the pedestals, inset Vitrolite panels (a form of opaque structural glass popular in the Art Deco era) complete the design. These Vitrolite tops provide a durable and polished surface, enhancing the pedestals' functionality while reinforcing their Deco aesthetic.
