About the Item

Minimalist plaster pedestal or plant stand, circa 1980s with stippled Organic Modern texture. Plaster furniture enjoys a long history, with the earliest attribution to Emilio R. Terry, a Parisian-born designer who originally concepted and created plaster rock form console tables for the foyer of the Château de Clavary in 1927. These consoles served as inspiration for Sirmos in the early 1970s, with several designers drawing inspiration from those origins. This pedestal example would have been created in the latter part of the 20th Century, taking cues from the origins of plaster furniture, yet in a simplified, pared down silhouette. A clean, rectangular pedestal form, perfect for use as a perch for a great sculpture, or billowing floral display. It would also make a tremendous side table in a living space, or could serve as a night stand in a guest suite.
