About the Item

This is an exquisite vintage burr walnut pedestal desk dating from the second half of the 20th Century. This desk has been accomplished in  the Victorian manner and was beautifully made by a craftsman from burr walnut. The top is inset with a superb inset gold tooled leather writing surface and the brass drop handles are typical of the period and add elegance to this sumptuous item. The desk features three drawers in the frieze with a drawer above a double depth filing drawer in one pedestal, and three drawers in the other. Condition: In excellent condition having only been beautifully cleaned and waxed in our workshops, please see photos for confirmation. Dimensions in cm: Height 79 cm x Width 155 cm x Depth 90.5 cm Height 61 cm x Width 70 cm  - Knee hole Dimensions in inches: Height 2 foot, 7 inches x Width 5 feet, 1 inch x Depth 3 feet Height 2 foot x Width 2 foot, 4 inches - Knee hole Burr Walnut refers to the swirling figure present in nearly all walnut when cut and polished, and especially in the wood taken from the base of the tree where it joins the roots. However the true burr is a rare growth on the tree where hundreds of tiny branches have started to grow. Burr walnut produces some of the most complex and beautiful figuring you can find. This is a fine and very rare antique Victorian burr walnut twin pedestal partners desk, Circa 1860 in date. It is made from fabulous burr walnut, the rectangular top with a fabulous inset gold tooled green leather writing surface. One side has an arrangement of three drawers in the frieze over a pair of pedestals each with three graduated drawers, the other side has a central frieze drawer with a cupboard in each pedestal, each opens to a central shelf. The desk is fitted with the original turned walnut handles and it stands on a plinth base raised on brass castors. This is a beautiful antique Victorian flame mahogany and satinwood crossbanded pedestal partners desk, circa 1860 in date. The rectanglular top is satinwood crosbanded and inset with a stunning gold tooled green leather writing surface. One side of the desk is fitted with nine drawers, three drawers in the frieze and three drawers in each pedestal. The other side of the desk has three drawers in the frieze with a cupboard to each pedestal, each cupbpard is fitted with a central shelf. The drawers are all fitted withbeautiful brass drop handles, the desk is complete with the original brass locks and key, and is raised on plinth bases.
