About the Item

This side table was manufactured in the 1930s by Mücke-Melder, one of the established producers of tubular steel furniture in Czechoslovakia. The construction consists of a curved chromed tubular steel frame supporting two circular glass plates, resulting in an open and well-balanced composition. The design avoids decorative elements and instead relies on clear lines, transparent materials, and a deliberately light appearance. The asymmetric layout of the lower frame introduces a subtle sense of movement while maintaining functional clarity. Within the context of early tubular steel furniture of the 1930s, this table illustrates the quality of Mücke-Melder’s own production. In terms of construction and formal consistency, it stands alongside contemporary steel-tube designs produced for Thonet in Germany, without directly referencing or imitating them. The table is representative of the sober yet playfully light character of Czechoslovak Functionalism. Examples of this model appear only infrequently on the market and are primarily of interest as authentic Bauhaus-era objects.
