About the Item
Antique Ceylonese ebony and satinwood etagère with articulated top. Early to mid 19th Century.
The table is of very nice proportions, the Ceylon ebony contrasts beautifully against the figured satinwood.
The table has the original patina, showing some marks and signs of use and has been waxed. Please refer to the photographs. Handcrafted in Ceylon (Sri Lanka) from locally sourced solid woods.
The articulated top has a ratchet for adjustments. Possibly used for music, although there is no rest to the front, and there was not one originally.
The space inside could make a secret hiding space for very small items such as gems.
The table is sturdy in structure.
