About the Item
Side table hand-made in the Netherlands in the early 1800s using oak and peg construction. The table packs a lot of character in one small footprint! Starting from the top small pieces of molding were added throughout the structure to provide it with depth and decoration. The top is made of three oak boards framed with reversed ogee edged molding. The apron features an inset drawer on the front and is decorated with molding applied on flat panels on three sides, making this a piece that will need to be placed either against a wall or a sofa or chair. The legs are hand-turned and connected via a hand-carved I-stretcher, and the table still sits on its original ebonised bun feet.
Overall this is a small, yet highly decorative piece that shows beautiful grain of the wood. The bleaching process has helped highlighting the beautiful carvings found throughout the piece as well as accentuate the chiaroscuro contrasts created by the placement of the molding elements. This side table will be perfect next to your favorite reading chair as surface to place that hot tea or chocolate while reading a book during a rainy afternoon.
