About the Item
An interest in early forms of architecture has profoundly influenced Nick Ross’ approach to design. The way in which humans have arranged stones and other materials to construct structures for practical and religious purposes has laid the groundwork for his sculptural explorations.
In this fresh body of work, Nick Ross further develops these arrangements, drawing inspiration from elements of Scandinavian Bronze Age boat construction, Viking jewellery, and standing stones. It’s this return-to-basics approach that Ross views as holding renewed value in today’s intricate and fractured society. “These objects are simple, showcasing my design philosophy in its purest form: material and volume in context.”
The project was first shown at the Swedish Museum of History during the Stockholm Design Week in September 2023.
Made in solid maple with a hard wax oil finish.

Nick Ross
Nick Ross studied at Gray's School of Art in Aberdeen on the industrial design program, where he was awarded the arts and heritage prize for his graduation project in 2008. In early 2009, he moved to Rotterdam to work under Tomáš Gabzdil Libertíny and later moved to Stockholm to work for FRONT until the spring of 2010. In 2011, he became a tutor at Gray's School of Art and worked there until enrolling in the master's program in interior architecture and furniture design at Konstfack in Stockholm, where he received his MFA in 2013. Upon graduating, he worked as an assistant to Matti Klenell until founding his studio in early 2014.
