About the Item
A gorgeous, interesting, and very rare light oak Arts
Crafts refectory trestle table in lovely antique condition. Strikingly attractive, beautifully crafted and extremely versatile, this super table makes a lovely smaller dining table, a larger side tables or a great-looking desk, bedroom or occasional table and will add gorgeous light colouring, terrific craftsmanship and a wonderful, traditional-yet-decorative look to any interior. This is listing is for the blonder of a pair – please see our other listings for the other table and the pair.
Likely made around 1910-30 by a member of the Cotswold School and possibly sold by high-end retailer Heals, this reassuringly heavy table was expertly crafted from golden or light oak, as was the style of the Cotswold School, part of the Arts
Crafts movement.
This marvellously decorative table features outstanding tapering trestle legs, which are joined by impressive pegged-tenon jointed stretchers and supported by substantial broad feet – all beautifully crafted and with lovely, chamfered edges.
It has a decent-sized plank top with gorgeous mitre-jointed decoratively carved bordering, which really sets it apart and strongly suggests their Cotswold School heritage, as the design school was renowned for including eye-catching, decorative flourishes to traditionally carved pieces of outstanding quality, particularly in light oak.
All in all this is a wonderfully charming and rare golden oak trestle table, which won’t fail to impress and will add gorgeous colouring and a wonderfully rustic-yet-decorative Cotswold School Arts
Crafts aesthetic to any setting. Individually they’re stunners and together they make a knockout pair – please our other listings for details.
CONDITION
This super table is in very good antique condition. Structurally sound, sturdy and reassuringly heavy, as you’d expect from a traditionally crafted English oak piece, it has only minor to-be-expected marks and blemishes to denote its not-inconsiderable age, mainly to the top, which are hardly noticeable out of direct sunlight and which, if anything, only adds to its semi-rustic antique appeal. Overall it’s a stunning, exceedingly charming and versatile trestle table in lovely antique condition and if well looked after it will be just as breathtaking and usable for many generations to come – please see the photos.
