About the Item

This small ceramic stool from the early 20th century follows the classic drum-form shape of traditional Chinese garden stools. The low stool has a tapered, barrel shape and a ring of raised dots around the seat, imitating the boss-head nails that secure stretched hide to an actual drum. Eternal coin cutouts perforate the sides, symbols of prosperity and success, and an emerald green glaze sheets down the sides with irregular drip patterns and an allover crackle. Traditionally used as a place to rest one’s feet, a stool like this can be used indoors or out as a small side table or patio furniture. Firing split on one side through coin cutout.
