About the Item

A beautiful and very rare two-toned Chinese Scholar’s table in lovely antique condition. Dating from the end of the Qing Dynasty, around 1890, this stunning and practical piece makes an ideal lamp or side table and will add gorgeous colouring and bygone Eastern charm and quality to any interior. This Scholar’s table or Tea table was likely made in Jiangsu Province in eastern China, from honey-toned Yumu (Northern Elm) and gorgeous deep ruddy-brown Blood Ju, the top grade of Jumu (Southern Elm), giving it a striking, special and very rare two-tone aesthetic. Expertly crafted using traditional joinery, it features a mitred top with central Blood Ju inlay above a recessed Blood Ju border and rounded shoulders featuring bat carvings – the Chinese symbol for good luck. It has lovely horse hoof feet, with the central shelf of Blood Ju inlay while the lower shelf features beautiful and eye-catching geometric fretwork. All in all this is a stunning and very rare antique Chinese side table with so much to admire, it will enhance any interior with its bygone charm, beautiful detail and gorgeous colouring. CONDITION This is in very good antique condition. Structurally sound, it has only to-be-expected signs of its age including a few minor hard-to-notice historic wormholes which have been treated for good measure.
