About the Item
A very charming, rare and versatile Colonial side table with drawer and casters in lovely antique condition. Likely made around 1900 in Indonesia, this very attractive and unusual piece can serve as a side, occasional or console table as well as a small desk. However and wherever it’s used, it will add lovely rich colouring and quality, and a super aesthetic of bygone Colonial craftsmanship to any interior.
Compact yet reassuringly heavy, this attractive and moveable table is the perfect size for a laptop. Made from solid teak wood, it features panelled sides, intricately turned, tapering legs set on original iron casters and has a very handy large, dovetail jointed drawer with a secret compartment and a handle with the remnants of green paint.
Possibly repurposed from a larger table, the solid plank top displays lovely traditional craftsmanship, with rounded edging and corners, and mortise
tenon and mitred joints on display.
All in all this is a very practical and attractive table, which offers a variety of uses and will enhance any setting with bygone quality and charm.
CONDITION
This is in very good antique condition. Structurally sound and reassuringly heavy, it has to-be-expected wear to show its age. The drawer lining appears to be repurposed from cargo boxing, which only adds to its antique appeal, and has a repair to one runner on the underside of the drawer. Overall it’s an exceedingly charming, rare and versatile table in lovely antique condition and if well looked after it should be just as impressive for generations to come – please see the photos.
