Sculptural Black Sheep Side Table – Bussoga, Spain.
Introducing the "Taula Ovella" – a unique sculptural side table shaped like a black sheep, handcrafted by Bussoga, a Barcelona-based design studio. This collectible piece belongs to a growing collection of animal-shaped furniture that fuses craftsmanship, conceptual design, and ceramic artistry.
This black version of the Taula Ovella is made with a sturdy steel structure, topped with an MDF board, and meticulously clad in hand-cut black ceramic tiles. Each tile is shaped using traditional pliers, diamond discs, and ceramic-cutting tools, ensuring that no two pieces are exactly alike.
A white version is also available, and an outdoor-use adaptation can be made to order.
About Bussoga – Contemporary Ceramic Design from Catalonia
Founded by Irina Grosu and Josep Motas, Bussoga is a contemporary design studio known for their innovative approach to ceramic tile art. While traditionally focused on screen-printed tiles, this collection takes a bold turn with smooth ceramic cladding applied to sculptural furniture.
In 2024, Bussoga was selected for the Madrid Design Festival as part of a curated exhibition of "rural designers." Their collection of animals – starting with pigs and sheep – has since expanded to include cows, sharks, and crocodiles, bridging rural imagination with contemporary design.
Bussoga’s design philosophy critiques mass production and explores the boundaries between art, craft, and function. With influences from mathematics, mural art, and surrealism, their work updates ceramic folklore into contemporary design language, aiming to foster sustainable, democratic living.
