About the Item

An exceptional Amsterdam School coffee or center table, crafted in solid oak with shelves on all sides and bold black-stained feet. Designed around 1920, this piece bears strong stylistic parallels to the work of Paul Bromberg and was undoubtedly produced by one of the leading Dutch furniture ateliers of the period. Architectural in form and rich in detail, the table offers a commanding presence from every angle. Each side reveals a slightly different rhythm - the interplay of vertical supports, inset shelving, and bold black accents gives it a sculptural quality that is both functional and expressive. The proportions are masterfully balanced: solid yet refined, geometric yet lively. Beautifully restored and in excellent condition, the piece retains its warm oak grain and a deep, natural sheen. It is structurally sound and stable, ready to serve as a statement coffee table or centerpiece in a refined interior. The Amsterdam School movement (1910–1930) represented the most imaginative expression of Dutch Art Deco. It was not a single aesthetic but a shared pursuit among architects, sculptors, and designers - among them Michel de Klerk, Piet Kramer, Hildo Krop, and J.M. van der Meij — who sought to merge craftsmanship, emotion, and social idealism into a new modern style. At once architectural and exuberant, rational and romantic, the Amsterdam School remains one of the most fascinating design movements of the early 20th century - and this table captures its spirit perfectly: bold, individual, and full of character.

Dutch Art Deco The Hague School solid oak accent table, 1920s
Located in EVERDINGEN, NL
A sculptural and beautifully crafted Haagse School side table in solid oak, dating from the 1920s. This compact yet architectural piece embodies the movement’s emphasis on structural clarity, honest materials, and refined geometric form. The circular top rests on four tapering supports that create a rhythmic verticality, grounded by round lower shelf, giving the piece a functional elegance. Compact yet visually strong, it works beautifully as a side table, accent table, or plant stand, and stands out with its sculptural Mission-style silhouette. Recently lightly restored, the surface is in excellent condition - the oak shows a warm even patina and woodgrain, the piece is stable and sturdy. Small in footprint, but notably weighty. A superb example of Dutch interwar modernism, where craftsmanship meets disciplined form, and the material itself becomes ornament. ''Haagse School'' furniture manufacturing was centered in the city of The Hague with its rather affluent clientele. In the 1920s, a style of architecture and furniture design emerged in The Hague that would become known as The Hague School. More sober than the imaginative Amsterdam School and more elegant and luxurious than De Stij...
