About the Item

An exceptional example of Dutch Art Deco, this Amsterdam School table was designed by P.E.L. Izeren for De Genneper Molen around 1920 and carries the original maker’s (branded Genneper Molen stamp) beneath. The piece also carries its original control mark (Vereeniging Nederlands Fabrikaat), certifying its authenticity and domestic production since 1915. Model 301, documented in early Genneper Molen catalogues, is among Izeren’s most compelling designs - architectural, sculptural, unmistakably expressive and a little bizarre. The form is defined by its dramatic inward-pointing, curved legs, creating a silhouette that is both unusual and beautifully resolved. The circular top is executed in quartered oak veneer, while the rim is decorated with arrow-like coromandel (macassar ebony) elements that underscore the table’s architectural presence and lend subtle graphic tension to the profile. The leg ends are finished in a deep black stain, visually grounding the composition and heightening the interplay of curves and verticals. Crafted in solid oak, oak veneer, and applied coromandel detailing, the table possesses a surprising heft and material authority despite its compact scale - a testament to the artisanal workmanship that defined the early years of De Genneper Molen. It remains in good original condition, showing small, age-appropriate signs of use but structurally excellent. Beyond its historical significance, the piece carries a sculptural clarity that integrates seamlessly into eclectic, character-driven interiors - spaces where furniture, objects, and textures interplay to form a unified artistic environment. Its expressive geometry makes it both an anchor and an accent. About the Designer P.E.L. Izeren (1886–1943) designed numerous works for De Genneper Molen and remained with the firm into the late 1930s. Housed in a former watermill in Gennep, the company began as a sawmill before expanding around 1917 into the making of small furnishings - marketed in their catalogues as “supplementary furniture.” These refined tables, stands, and cabinets soon became the heart of their production, with Izeren’s distinctive sculptural designs among the most enduring contributions.
