Very rare antique English Victorian hand-painted and pearl inlaid lacquered papier mâché occasional table
It is a mid- Victorian inlaid and hand painted
occasional table attributed to the papier mâche' tray maker, Jennens
Bettridge
Jennens
Bettridge worked approx. 1814-64, therefore this tray table
(made from what appears to be an upside down tray form) is likely Circa
1850-64. It is inlaid with flakes of mother of pearl and also retains
its original hand painted floral design with gilt highlights around
the edge and along the perimeter of the base. Some "age chips" under
top edge noted as well as a short crack in the papier mâché base. It retains its original cast iron "trefid" feet.
