About the Item
An attractive and high quality French 19th century Louis XV st. Kingwood, Tulipwood, and Ormolu side table, signed Sormani, Paris. This impressive single drawer side table is raised by four cabriole legs having Tulipwood inlays and supported on foliate decorated wrap around Ormolu sabots. The top cap of each leg is designed with scrolling foliate Ormolu mounts. The arbalest shaped front apron contains Tulipwood inlays with three Kingwood inlaid panels that make up the drawer while the center is decorated by an oval shaped foliate designed Ormolu keyhole escutcheon. Atop the keyhole escutcheon and hardware is the plaque that showcases the 'Sormani' signature which also presents the address: '134 Boulevard Haussmann'. Both side panels display butterfly veneered Kingwood panels above a curved Tulipwood butterfly veneered background. The attractive scallop shaped top is designed with a sunburst marquetry of veneered Kingwood and Tulipwood bands. The stunning top is fitted with a finely mottled Ormolu gallery.
