Offered for sale is a single Ralph Pucci "Sylvestre" bronze and blue lacquered wood side table by Hervé Van der Straeten. These tables were made of morello cherry wood or faded plum wood with patinated bronze bases. These tables are sold individually, with 2 being available.
Hervé Van der Straeten was born in 1965 and is an independent artist-designer who was first known for his jewelry creations, and now enjoys worldwide recognition for his furniture and lighting, which are instantly recognizable for the way he combines contrasting materials, bold variations of form and defiant volumes with perfect proportions, precision and detail. He designs and makes everything in his own dedicated bronze and cabinet making workshops and displays a selection of both his unique and limited-edition pieces in his own gallery in Paris. The artist-designer is also known for his projects with French luxury houses. Van der Straeten has received numerous awards from the French government during his career including L’Enterprise du Patrimonie Vivant and the Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres. He joined RALPH PUCCI in 2004.
The underside of the table retains the maker's bronze tag.

Herve Van Der Straeten
Remarkably sculptural but unexpectedly versatile, vintage Hervé Van der Straeten furniture and lighting is at home in all kinds of interiors. While the French designer’s chandeliers, tables and other works draw on everything from visual art forms in Japan to luxurious Art Deco–era furnishings to modernist icons such as Mies van der Rohe, Van der Straeten designs are unapologetically original and rather difficult to categorize.
Van der Straeten was born in Savigny-sur-Orge, France, in 1965. As a young man, he attended the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He studied painting but began making jewelry, too. Van der Straeten’s inaugural accessories, constructed with brass and rubber, garnered immediate attention. In 1985, French fashion designer Thierry Mugler had included several of Van der Straeten's designs in a show, and before long, he was designing for names like Alexander McQueen and Christian Lacroix.
Despite the success of Hervé Van der Straeten jewelry, the visionary designer shifted his focus to interior decor. "For me, jewelry was more like a parenthetical," he told 1stDibs. "What I always wanted to do was to design furniture." So, in 1992, Van der Straeten launched a collection of dishes, sconces and candlesticks. He opened a showroom in the Marais district of Paris in 1999, followed by a workshop in the suburb of Bagnolet.
Today, Van der Straeten oversees approximately 30 artisans at his ateliers who help bring his furniture designs to life. His work is delightfully unconventional and will draw the focus in any space — there is a compelling emphasis on the use of industrial materials, such as anodized aluminum and steel rods, as well as an integration of traditional techniques such as marquetry in his sculptural mirrors, side tables and other pieces. Van der Straeten’s furniture — some of which can be found in the alluring apartment in Paris that the designer shares with his husband, former Roger Vivier artistic director Bruno Frisoni — is available in the United States through both Ralph Pucci and Maison Gerard.

Meret Oppenheim, in full Meret Elisabeth Oppenheim, (born October 6, 1913, Berlin, Germany—died November 15, 1985, Basel, Switzerland), German-born Swiss artist whose fur-covered teacup, saucer, and spoon became an emblem of the Surrealist movement. The piece, created when Oppenheim was just 23 years old, became so famous that it overshadowed the rest of her career.
Oppenheim’s father was German and Jewish and her mother was Swiss. In 1914, at the outbreak of World War I, the family moved from Germany to Switzerland. Oppenheim was encouraged by her father and by her maternal grandmother, author and illustrator Lisa Wenger-Ruutz, to pursue art. Thus, in 1929 she began art studies at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Basel (through 1930). She then moved to Paris and briefly attended the Académie de la Grande Chaumière in 1932.
Being in Paris offered Oppenheim the opportunity to connect with leading avant-garde artists, which, more than schooling, gave her entrée into the art world. In 1933 she met Alberto Giacometti, Man Ray, André Breton, and Jean (Hans) Arp. Oppenheim was quickly absorbed into the Surrealist circle and exhibited three paintings at the Salon des Surindépendants in Paris in 1933. Soon after meeting Man Ray, she became his muse and modeled for images such as Érotique Voilée (1933; “Erotic Veiled”), in which she appeared nude behind...
