About the Item
A Mexican 1970's wood and goatskin parchment side table by María Teresa Mendez. The round goatskin top is handpainted with a illustration after the "Libro del saber de astronomía", a book conceived between 1276 and 1279 during the reign of Alfonso X of Castille, specifically the Figures of the Cancer Degrees. The tripod faux bamboo mahogany legs are crossed and attached with bronze knobs. The table is signed with a monogram on the inner circle, under the Cancer crab.
María Teresa Mendez founded her workshop (named TMTM) in 1962. She worked with Karl Springer during the 1970s. Her pieces of furniture were sold at Neiman Marcus in New York.
