About the Item

This pair of "Orio" side tables was designed by Pierluigi Cerri for Fontana Arte in the 1980s. Minimalist and of remarkable quality, the "Orio" side table is timelessly elegant. Its top is crafted from rare bluish glass with bevelled edges. Topped by a circular red resin handle, it rests on a slender black-lacquered metal rod and a circular cast-iron base. These specimens are in very good condition. Pierluigi Cerri is a graduate of Milan Polytechnic, where he taught with Umberto Eco. In 1974, as a partner, he founded Gregotti Associati, with whom he won numerous architectural competitions. He has also designed objects and furniture for major furniture firms, including these graceful side tables for Fontana Arte. Bibliography: L. Falconi, “Fontana Arte: Una Storia Trasparente”, Skira, 1998, p. 157
