Oval Side Table in Pink Marble and Brass, Italy, 1970's
This side table combines a pink-beige marble top with a sculptural brass base. The stone has soft veining in grey and brown tones, with a slightly oval shape that feels balanced and light.
The base is made of solid brass and stands on four tapered legs connected by a stretcher. What makes it stand out are the vertical supports. They’re cast in brass and decorated with reliefs that resemble primitive or abstract figures in motion—some appear to dance, sit, or reach out. These shapes are not just decorative; they give the table a kind of narrative, as if the base is telling a story in metal.
The brass isn’t polished to a high shine but has a warmer, matte tone with some natural variation. The figures in the relief are raised, creating depth and texture, and the casting technique gives the whole base a slightly raw, handmade feel.
The table is both functional and expressive. It holds its weight through the marble but draws the eye with the details in the brass. It’s a piece that doesn’t shout but still has presence—part sculpture, part furniture.
Note that the marble top rests on the base by means of six rubber plates, so that the marble lies firmly and does not shift.
