About the Item
A pair of antique dark and glossy Chinese wooden barrels, with removable lids.
The barrel shape was created using traditional stave and hoop construction, similar to a traditional barrel or bucket. The tops and bottoms feature decorative banding, with rivets.
While sometimes repurposed as stools, garden seats, or accent tables today, they were historically used as functional grain or rice storage containers.
This pair features four carved and detailed mythical faces, holding rings in their mouths, one on each side of each barrel, as well as beautifully carved and detailed lids. The edges of the tops feature geometric bands, and toward the center are petal shaped borders.
Their beautiful shape and charming details are wonderful examples of Chinese artisanship, and these would make wonderful side tables, drink tables, or decorative objects.
