About the Item

Paolo Buffa (attributed) — Black Walnut Glass Round Coffee Table, Italy, 1950–60s This refined round coffee table—attributed to the celebrated Italian designer Paolo Buffa—was produced in Italy during the 1950s or early 1960s and beautifully showcases the elegance of mid-century Italian craftsmanship. Made from carved walnut and finished in a deep black stain, the table features a delicately inset circular glass top resting on a curved, sculptural substructure. Its clean lines, gently tapered legs, and lacquered wooden frame highlight the timeless simplicity typical of Italian design from this period. The glass top is removable, and the piece has been refinished while preserving its authentic vintage character, presenting natural, light signs of age and use, including subtle scratches and minor surface wear. These gentle marks contribute to its charm as an original mid-century object. The table measures 18 in in height (45.5 cm) and 26.8 in in diameter (68 cm), making it ideal as a coffee table or an elegant side piece. The same model was also featured in the PIASA “Italian Selected Design” auction, Paris, October 30th, 2019, underscoring its significance within the landscape of mid-century Italian furniture. The glass top is original and shows normal signs of use consistent with age. The wooden frame is solid and stable, though it also displays some expected wear over time.
