A sculptural side table from Yrjö Kukkapuro’s ‘Saturnus’ series, produced by Haimi in the 1970s. The table features a square top with rounded corners set on a boldly flared pedestal base, all finished in a deep, uniform black. Originally developed during Kukkapuro’s exploratory period of the 1970s, the ‘Saturnus’ series reflects his move toward simple yet expressive volumes. ABOUT THE DESIGNER
Yrjö Kukkapuro (1933–2025) was one of the central figures of Finnish modern design, known for his lifelong exploration of ergonomics and human-centred furniture. Educated at the Institute of Industrial Arts in Helsinki, he approached design through research, prototyping, and an interest in new production methods. Kukkapuro worked across materials such as fibreglass, plywood, leather, and moulded plastics, often achieving forms that were both functional and expressive. His long collaboration with Haimi in the 1960s and 70s produced several of his most recognisable works, many of which remain part of the Finnish design heritage and continue to be collected internationally.
