About the Item

This unique side table is crafted from an original usu—a traditional Japanese mortar—dating back to the Meiji period (1868–1912). The rich, sculptural form and weathered surface tell the quiet story of decades of use, giving the piece an unmistakable presence and authenticity. A newly fabricated brass top has been added, creating a refined contrast between the warm, organic texture of the wood and the elegant metallic surface. The brass top is finished with a hand-worked, randomly distressed sanding pattern, adding depth and character while allowing the table to blend easily into both contemporary and rustic interiors. The base retains the beautiful irregularities and tactile qualities of the antique wood, preserving its wabi-sabi charm. The underside is fitted with adjustable height levelers for stability on any floor surface. A functional sculptural object, this piece stands as a one-of-a-kind fusion of Japanese history, craftsmanship, and modern design. Materials Antique Japanese hardwood (Meiji period), solid brass top Condition Beautiful antique condition consistent with age and use. Surface textures and marks are intentional features of the original usu. Dimensions Size : 610φ H565 (mm)
