About the Item
This rare set of four Japanese triangular nesting corner tables or console tables dates from the late Meiji period, circa 1900.
Each table is crafted in wood and finished with richly executed polychrome lacquer work, featuring finely painted butterflies, flowers, and stylised foliage in gold and coloured lacquer on a deep black ground.
The four tables are made in graduated sizes, allowing them to be used individually as corner consoles or combined to form an attractive tiered display. Their triangular form makes them ideal for placement in corners, while the pierced side panels and delicate hand-painted decoration reflect the refined craftsmanship typical of late Meiji lacquerware.
