- Condition:Additions or alterations made to the original: Originally this piece was stained, tooled grained to look like a hardwood like walnut or mahogany. It was stripped or scrubbed of this finish, sanded waxed to celebrate the beauty of the natural wood. Wear consistent with age and use. Turned feet were likely replaced at some point in its history while the turned wooden knobs are original.

Antique Empire/ Biedermeier Chest of Drawers in West Indies Mahogany, Denmark
Located in INTERLAKEN, NY
A beautiful Danish Empire or Biedermeier chest in fine West Indies mahogany with four drawers of staggered heights. The handsome figuring of the grain is given added movement by the flat cut contiguous veneer moving horizontally across the front of the chest.. The sides also have a flat cut veneer in one piece that was at the intersection of the huge branch or fork in the tree showing the knot and the concentric circles of the grain radiating out from the knot. Chest offers a pedestal top and rests on turned front feet, with diamond-shaped inlaid satinwood key insets. The top and bottom drawers have sculpted fronts. The secondary wood is pine as is traditional in Scandinavian cabinetry. Denmark, circa 1830.
