About the Item
This low table exudes a unique presence, with a tabletop made from an old Japanese workbench and legs made from beams from an old Japanese house. The tabletop is made from a single piece of zelkova wood, originally used for a long time as a workbench for woodworkers to plan and perform various tasks. Its surface is engraved with countless small scratches, gouges, and tool marks, and the aged texture and deep shadows unique to old wood create a powerful expression. Its rough texture goes beyond being simply an "old board"; it has a depth that seems to represent the memory of the wood that has supported work for many years, becoming a landscape in itself. The texture conveys a special warmth when touched.
The roughness unique to dried-out old wood, the cracks that have opened over time, and the soft unevenness create a simple yet impressive presence. Because the board is so old, the tabletop has a slight arched curve when viewed lengthwise. This natural "warping" actually highlights the charm of old wood, evoking a beauty that can never be achieved with machine-made products, and is created only through time. However, when placed on the table base, the tabletop remains stable and does not wobble.
It weighs 30.75 kg, a weight typical of solid wood, and simply placing it in a space exudes a sense of solid stability.
The legs are made from old cedar beams unearthed during the demolition of a Japanese house, and retain the rough chisel marks and cracks that only structural materials that have supported a building for many years can have. The strong marks carved into the dry wood are a testament to the artisan's handiwork, and the combination of this beam and the zelkova tabletop is as natural as if the two materials had been together for a long time, and their compatibility is striking. The aged cedar legs, retaining their gentle, soft color, and the aged zelkova wood on top create a harmonious beauty as a whole, resulting in a table that exudes a powerful presence even without excessive decoration.
When placed in a space, it stands like a quiet sculpture, neither biased toward Japanese nor Western styles, and its depth makes it a natural and picturesque piece even when placed with ceramics, cups, or woodwork. The roughness and wear of the aged wood are transformed into beauty, making this a piece that embodies the spirit of wabi-sabi.
This low table brings to life the age-old aging of the wood, a worldview that would be impossible to achieve with new wood. It's rare to find furniture that brings out the charm of the material to this extent. This beautiful and powerful piece will add a deep, quiet weight and the warmth that only aged wood can provide to your space.

We are a specialized team dealing in antiques and vintage items, comprised of stores based on three distinct brands. While focusing on Japanese items, we also offer a carefully curated selection of attractive goods from around the world—each evoking the culture and history of its country of origin.
Unlike the traditional Japanese antique furniture and art that have been appreciated overseas until now, we shine a light on the tools and furniture that were used for many years in ordinary Japanese homes and farmhouses. These objects have gained a unique charm over time, their beauty deepened by the history accumulated through daily life. In today’s world, however, many of these precious items are discarded during home demolitions. We are committed to reassessing their value and passing them on to future generations.
Drawing from our extensive experience—having seen tens of thousands of items through direct purchases, markets, and auction houses—we carefully select and present only the most captivating pieces. This is something made possible only through the years of knowledge and expertise we have cultivated.
Rather than focusing on the widely known facets of Japanese art and culture, we highlight the subtle beauty born from the everyday life of common people. It is this rediscovered beauty, steeped in history, that we strive to share with the world.
