About the Item

This rare dining or working table is a unique piece designed by Enzo Mari as part of the Metamobile project, first produced by Simon in Italy in 1974. Rooted in the philosophy of Mari’s seminal book, Autoprogettazione, this table embodies the concept of self-made design, focusing on simplicity, functionality, and the deeper value of the creation process. The Autoprogettazione approach was groundbreaking, promoting an easy-to-assemble, do-it-yourself methodology using raw materials like rough pine wood boards and nails. The Metamobile project, a collaboration between Enzo Mari and Dino Gavina, expanded on this concept. Produced at Gavina’s plant in Calcinelli di Fano, these limited-edition pieces remained true to the ethos of Autoprogettazione while adapting slightly for production. Instead of nails, these designs utilized screws, washers, and nuts, preserving the raw and honest materiality while ensuring a durable structure. Crafted from natural pine wood, this table is an authentic example of the Metamobile project. Over time, the pine has developed a rich, dark patina, highlighting its history and enhancing its character. Pine is known for its tendency to darken with age and use, making this table’s vintage authenticity and age immediately apparent. Originally purchased in the 1970s from a renowned Belgian design store specializing in design classics, this piece remains in excellent condition, showcasing its remarkable craftsmanship and timeless aesthetic. This table serves not only as a functional piece of furniture but as a testament to Enzo Mari’s vision of empowering individuals to engage with the process of design and creation. It’s an extraordinary find for collectors and enthusiasts of mid-century design. Please note that the chair in the photographs is not included in this listing. Literature; Enzo Mari curated by Hans Ulrich Obrist, with Francesca Giacomelli, Electa page 144-145. Enz Mari Autoprogettazione, Edizioni Corraini, page 14-15.

Architectural dining table model T30 designed by Edoardo Landi and manufactured by Studio D, Italy 1973. This table is designed by Architect Landi in 1973, and was produced in a very small series by StudioD, together with some chairs, cabinets and tables. This table is made of solid pine wood and is stained in black, it has a glass top in the center which gives the table a nice transparent look. This table is a typical architects design, its clearly visible in the way its constructed and shaped. The table is differenly nice from every angle and is very nice in use as well. The middle part is open and can be used to store items, books, or paper work and it will be only visible from the top and sides. The table can be fully dis assembled for safe shipping. This is one of the most stunning tables I have seen recently and reminds a lot of the later designs by Jose Zanine Caldas as well. Documentation is available but not included in the sale. The table can use up to 8 chairs and the chairs on the picture are not included in this listing. Edoardo Landi studied architecture at the Scuola Superiore di Disegno Industriale, Venice. 1959–1964 founding member of Gruppo N...
